The Association of Suffolk Art Teachers was formed many years ago to advocate for the employment of an art advisor by Suffolk County Council. This end was achieved and since then ASAT has continued to exist to promote Art and Design in education in Suffolk. ASAT is open not just to art teachers but to any teacher in Suffolk interested in art. Revitalised over the past couple of years ASAT has been working on the largest programme of exhibitions in it's history. These exhibitions are open to any teacher producing art in Suffolk.

RADAR 13/06/05 - 08/07/05

It was George Bernard Shaw who was responsible for the establishment of the aphorism 'Those who can do, those who can't teach!. The Association of Suffolk Art Teachers recent exhibitions have proved this to be far from the case.

In their second show for New Cut Arts, 'Radar' The association are surveying the wealth of talented artists who pursue their own individual visions and produce their own often challenging work, as well as choosing to teach, believing it is in this way they can make the most impact and have most influence.

The exhibition, for the first time is a collaboration with both The Cut and the Halesworth Gallery, giving each individual artist a larger opportunity to show a more representative sample of their work than is usual in a group show. The work itself ranges from sculpture and installation, through drawing and painting to printmaking and photography.

From an open entry of teachers living and working in Suffolk schools, the Association of Suffolk Art Teachers committee will select and hang the final show. The exhibition will demonstrate the quality and variety of art practice of those working with young people today.

If you would like to take part please email your details and the details of what you would like to put in the show to us here.

New Cut Art Show
New Cut PV
The latest ASAT show is currently taking place at the New Cut Arts Centre in Halesworth. The exhibition is called 'Can Do Better'. The opening was on Friday 16th July. This was possibly the best, most crowded PV in ASAT's recent history as all of ASAT's friends and the New Cut's turned out to witness a strong, varied show. The exhibition ends on 14th August and can be seen between eleven and four each day.

Rob Rutterford, art co-ordinator at Saxmundham Middle School, ran a garden sculpture workshop on Saturday 17th July at the New Cut.

Installation of the show was on 14th and 15th July and images can be seen here.
